Expectations

If this is your first time selecting a condo as your lodging choice, there are some things that you need to keep in mind. A condo is much more spacious and gives you much more control over your stay by offering full kitchen and laundry facilities in your unit. The Indies is not however a resort hotel and therefore does not offer some of the things that you might find at a hotel facility. There is no contingent of staff to clean your room every day or to constantly patrol the grounds picking up towels or empty water bottles. Therefore, it is up to you to leave the common areas as you found them. Another difference that you need to keep in mind is The Indies offers little in the way of vending machines, the only nearby being located by the pool across the street. There are a couple of convenience stores on the penninsula but the closest is approximately 5 miles. The second is twice that distance and they both close fairly early, between 8 and 10pm. The nearest grocery store is about 20 miles away in Foley so make sure you STOP ON THE WAY IN and get at least the minimum to sustain your party for the length of your stay. Don't forget things such as laundry soap, paper towels and condiments. You will find all of the utinsels you need in the units, but for safey considerations, all opened foodstuffs are disposed of between rentals. There are several restaurants nearby (1/2 to 10 miles) that you can check out in the dining section.

Wildlife Considerations
This area is designated as a sea turtle nesting area. During nesting season it is extremely important that you do not approach or interfere with turtles, nests or hatchlings that you may find on the beach. If you go out on the beach at night, you should use a filtered flashlight. These may be purchased at the Sunset Properties Management Office, but are only available in limited quantities.
Beach Weather
Temperatures here can fluctuate by 40 degrees or more in the fall, winter or spring months so it is important that you consider this when packing for a stay here. In the summer months, it is usually warm to pretty darned hot and late afternoon thunderstorms are frequent. These storms often approach quickly from the north so it is important that you don't under estimate the amount of time it takes to gather your belongings and make the walk back to the Indies. Doing so could result in a hair raising dash across open space amidst frequent lightning and pouring rain. Also, the rooftop sundeck is not really the best place to observe one of these storms as lightning can and does strike outside it's cloud cover.
